Dot-matrix printers use impact technology. Needles, commanded by electromagnets, strike an ink ribbon which deposits its ink on the paper.
The paper is normal but it is necessary to change regularly the ink ribbon.
Thermal printers uses special paper which react to the heat. They are equipped with a heating comb which produce dots on the paper.
Inconvenient : paper react which the sun's heat !
